Money Making - Oaks

Hey all, for players of any level who need quick money, this is something I've just found out. OAKS. They chop fast, sell fast, and cost about 80gp per log atm, which means that a full inventory sells for about 2,240gp each. For those of you who have a high Woodcutting level, you'll find that you can earn money at a similar rate to YEWS. Its just that you'll have to do more running =P For those of you who have no idea there to find oak trees, they are ALL OVER Runescape, usually on their own, surrounded by normal trees, just that they are slightly bigger in size.

What oak trees look like. This picture was taken by me just southwest of Varrock Palace, to the east of The Grand Exchange.

Smithing Guide

Smelting

Basically, smithing is a method in which we make the bars needed for the forging of weapons and armour. Once you have obtained the ores you wish to make into bars (Mining, see previous Guide), you should bring them to a Furnace. You can find one via the World Map. Once you have found one, click on it. A menu will appear, and simply click on the bar you wish to smelt.

Please ensure that you have the ores and the skill level required to make a specific bar. You can also choose the amount of bars you wish to smelt by right-clicking the bar you want to smelt and selecting the amount.

Once you have selected the amount of bars you wish to smelt, your character will automatically start refining the ore. This is an automatic process.
SMITHING
Once you have the bars you need, you can start smithing them into weaponry or armour. First of all, you will need to find an Anvil. You can get to one by searching your World Map. Once at an anvil, use one of your bars in your inventory on the anvil. A menu like this one will appear.
The ability to smith your weapon or armour depends on your smithing level and how many bars of metal you have in your inventory. You can also right-click on any of the icons to select the amount you wish to make.

When you've selected the amount you wish to smith, your character will automatically start to create your weapons/armour. This process, like smelting, is automatic. Your weapon/armour will appear in your inventory when the animation is finished.

Mining Guide

Hello all, sorry for not being able to post anything for so long. I am currently trying to recover my account which was hacked recently ): Well anyway, this Mining Guide will cover the basics of mining.

The Basics

Mining is one of the 24 Skills that you can train on. This is a skill where you can extract ore from different types of rocks, in which you can sell or smelt in to bars for Smithing.

Before you are able to start mining, you will need to aquire a Pickaxe, such as this one

Initially, you will only be able to use a Bronze Pickaxe. As your skill increases, you will be able to wield pickaxes of higher quality, making your mining alot easier.

Mining Sites

Mining sites can be found throughout RuneScape, each offering certain types of ores. You can find mining sites via World Map. Please note that some mining sites may not be shown, as they may be hidden in dungeons or secret paths.

Rocks

Different rocks contain different types of ores. You can identify them by colour, or simple right click on a rock and Prospect it. Also note that you will need a certain Mining Level to obtain different ores.

Once you have found the rock countaining the ore you wish to obtain, click on it to start mining. You will need to have your pickaxe in your inventory, or wielding it to be able to mine rocks. You will see your character starting to swing his/her pick at the rock. This is an automatic process. The speed at which you mine ores is based on a combination of your Mining Level and the type of Pickaxe you are using.

Ores

Once you have obtained your ores, you can sell them for a certain price, or smelt them into bars which are used for Smithing (into weapons or armour). I will post a Smithing guide soon (:

Money Making - Hill Giants

U2rule4 has suggested a way for money making to be posted! All credit goes to him (:

For those of you who have successfully started training in RuneScape (see LEVELING, 28.2.2010 post), here is a way for you to earn money at a rather decent rate.

Hill Giant

Race/Type: Giant
Combat Level: 28
Number of Lifepoints: 350 (35HP)
Weakness: Stab Attacks

Hill Giants are usually found in RuneScape's many dungeons. They are rather strong (to players with a low combat level) and will put up a good fight with an unprepared warrior.

When killed, they drop Big Bones, which sell for around 600gp each at the moment. A full inventory sells for about 16.8k (16800gp). Since big bones are of large demand by players who wish to train their Prayer, selling the bones should not be a problem.

They have many possible loots, ranging from runes such as Law Runes and Death Runes, uncut gems, iron and steel weaponry/armour, and limpwurt roots that sell for 2k each.

Though there are several places to find Hill Giants, I would recommend going to Edgeville Dungeon to find them, as the other areas are far more dangerous for new adventurers to explore.

Edgeville Dungeon

Edgeville Dungeon has a large number of monsters in it. For players with lower combat levels, bring only the items you don't mind losing. Ensure that you also bring armour that provides decent protection and lots of food! Check the previous post, FOOD GUIDE for more information. Below shows the route from the start of the dungeon all the way to the Hill Giants. With a Brass Key, you will be able to exit the dungeon via ladder near the giants, and be able to unlock the door of the shed above. You may use the shed to access the dungeon anytime again in the future if you still have the Brass Key.

If you have a full inventory, you can exit the dungeon by the place where you entered from, or the shed above the Hill Giants. From the shed, Varrock and the Grand Exchange are to the east.

DON'T WASTE FOOD! For example, if you have a maximum of 200 Lifepoints, and have lost 50, you shouldn't eat a lobster that heals 120 Lifepoints just to get your health full again.

The Combat Triangle

This is a guide for new adventurers learning the art and tactics of combat!

As you wonder around RuneScape, you'll notice many players wearing different equipment, from light leather armour, soft robes and cloaks, to bulky weapons and armour.

Basically, these types of players are identified as three different stereotypes; melee fighters, rangers and mages, all of which form the corners of the combat triangle. Each corner has a distinct advantage and disadvantage over one another.

Melee Fighters
For those who want to get up close and homocidal

Advantages: Powerful weapons and armour - Arrows and bolts will have a hard time piercing the solid armour, allowing the fighter to get up close to do some serious damage to the archer.

Disadvantages: Weight - Armour is generally heavy, which means that you're energy will deplete much quicker than others. Metal - Though providing an excellent defence, the armour's metal is a good conductor of magical attacks. This increases the effects and damage of the mage's spells.

Rangers
For those who prefer nimble attacks from afar

Advantages: Range - Lets the archer attack from afar, throught fences or places where melee fighters can't reach them. Light - This allows rangers to conserve more energy for pursuit of targets. Articulated armour - Leather/Hides provide good protection from magical spells.

Disadvantages: Protection - Rangers' lightweight armour make them weak against melee attacks.

Mages
For those who prefer to use the powerful art of magic

Advantages: Spells - Mages have the ability to use powerful spells, depending on their Magic Levels.

Disadvantages: Soft-to-the-touch armour - Mages wear these cloaks to boost their magical abilities. However, by doing this they have turned themselves into 'Walking Pincusions'. Archers' arrows can easily pierce their robes and cloaks.

The combat triangle is at the the center of player-killing and combat throughout RuneScape. Always keep you stats, strengths and weaknesses in mind, depending on which corner you choose to use.
